Rust, or Corrosion is a chemical/electrochemical reaction and is a problem for everyone, everywhere!
Steel – tough as it is – has an unstable thermodynamic nature. When exposed to moisture and oxygen, it reverts to its original form – kind of like a natural reversion to the original ore from which it was formed.
Epsilon RTV for corrosion control is highly effective due to the ultra-hydrophobic nature of the coating that is engineered around silicone elastomers. The excellent chemical and UV-resistant properties of the vulcanized coating system make it stick like a rubber sheet to a metallic substrate. The highly elastic Epsilon RTV will stretch and contract along with the metal substrate as the cycle of thermal expansion and contraction plays out every day. It is UV-resistant, unaffected by mechanical vibration and prevents rust spread.
Be it an electrical junction box or tank farm or transformer radiator – corrosion is expense, and can be dangerous.
As rusting occurs, the oxidized ferrous alloy undergoes volumetric and linear expansion by almost 300%, rupturing the surface of an inelastic conventional poxy or galvanized metal. Doors on electrical junction boxes get deformed allowing moisture and water ingress which is as dangerous as you can imagine it to be.
Shortening of asset life could be as much as 50% to 70% in extreme pollution conditions.
As Transformer fins are repainted each time – sometimes upto twice a year in coastal environs – the plate metal starts to get thinner and thinner with every abrasive stroke of emery paper or sand blasting. A few years down the line, oil leakages start and transformer efficiency drops.
Along with substantial asset life reduction, the losses due to inefficiency silently mount.
Often installed in environs with extreme daily temperature variation, harsh UV and coastal areas, rusting of solar panel tables and structures around WTGs is commonplace
